Ideas for Green Dot Activites
- Schedule a bystander intervention training.
- Organize a community, school, or campus event which focuses on violence prevention or victim support. Examples include: Take Back the Night rally, Clothesline Project, A Dress Speaks display, Victim Silhouette display. We'll help! Contact us for ideas.
- Interview a local service provider about their work and their opinions on prevention of violence.
- Organize or participate in a project to further prevention efforts in your community, at your school, campus, or place of business.
- Volunteer at the Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Crisis Center.
- Write an article for the local newspaper about the importance of violence prevention.
- Insert s slide in all your Powerpoint presentations that includes information about Green Dot.
- Have a Green Dot poster hanging in your room, classroom, cubicle or office.
- Have Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Crisis Center information visibly available in your office or classroom.
- Have an endorsement statement of some kind attached to your email signature line. For examples see the Signature Lines for Email.
- Have a link to the Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Crisis Center (www.besafewc.org) on all the web pages over which you have influence.
- Once each month ask your family and friends “What green dots have you done or seen lately?” Research tells us that this simple task provides significant reinforcement of green dot behaviors.
- Write a paper for class dealing with any of the following topics:
- The psychological effects of rape victimization
- The portrayal of interpersonal violence in the media
- The economic impact of interpersonal violence
- The portrayal of interpersonal violence in movies, television, or music
- How technology has revolutionized stalking
- How male/female socialization perpetuates interpersonal violence
- The 7 characteristics of a rapist (see research by David Lisak)
- The cycle of violence and ways to combat or eliminate power-based personal violence
- Interpersonal violence from a global perspective
