Computer Tips for Your Safety
Clearing Internet Evidence
Netscape and Internet Explorer browsers make it easy to see where you have been on the Internet. To clear evidence that you've been visiting websites such as this one:
You must clear the History/Favorites and Cookies files in the Internet Browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) and in the computers operating system, Windows 95/98.
If you use Internet Explorer:
In the browser, select Tools, Internet Options, General Tab, Temporary Internet Files, Delete Files. This will delete the cache (locally stored memory) of sites you have visited. Then, on the same page, select History, Clear History. This will delete the list of site addresses for those pages.
If you use Netscape:
In the browser, select Communicator, Tools, History. Highlight the items you want deleted, right mouse-click, and select Delete.
In Windows 95/98:
Go to "My Computer," find the Windows\Cookies subdirectory. Delete any cookies from your site that you are afraid to have known to your abuser.
Empty Recycle Bin:
On your desktop, right click the Recycle Bin icon and choose the Empty Recycle Bin option in the menu. Click yes in the Confirm Delete dialog box.
