What Is Domestic Violence?

Domestic Violence includes acts of physical, verbal, financial, sexual, mental or emotional abuse. It also includes any acts of destruction of property belonging to the victim or abuse of pets. It is rarely a single act. These incidences will usually increase in occurrence and severity.

Facts About Domestic Violence

  • It is the single greatest cause of harm to women, including car accidents. It can be found in families at ALL socio-economic levels. It is the cause of 21% of women's visits to hospital emergency rooms. Children are present or involved in 55% of the events. Domestic violence/abuse is LEARNED behavior. It is about power and control over the partner.
